Case Study
Amira Hashish brings her guests into their own front rooms rather than a studio. Across the first episodes that meant a different London house each time, a different light, and names that come with their own audience: Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, Severance's Dichen Lachman with Maximilian Osinski, designer Pearl Lowe and stylist Sarah Corbett-Winder. I shot, lit, cut and graded the series.
The Brief
Film a new interview series in the homes of its guests, keep the look consistent from one house to the next, and hand back finished episodes plus stills ready for the launch campaign.
The Challenge
- Every location was somebody's living room, not a set: no rig time, no floor to spare, and interiors that ranged from a dark panelled sitting room to a pink drawing room to a white kitchen under a skylight.
- Conversations run long and unscripted, so coverage had to hold two, three, sometimes four people at once without ever asking anyone to reset.
- Guests at this level give you the time they give you, and the schedule is the schedule.
- The finished episodes had to look like one series, despite being shot in rooms with nothing in common.
The Approach
- I work from one compact kit, built to move: a camera plan I can set in minutes, available light shaped rather than replaced, and framing that lets the interior do the work behind the guest.
- I locked the grade early so every house lands in the same warm, filmic register, whatever the wallpaper.
- Wide two- and three-shots carry the exchange; I keep tighter frames ready for the moments that turn.
The Execution
I handled direction of photography, camera, lighting and sound capture on the day, then the full edit in-house: assembly, colour and delivery of each episode, plus a set of stills pulled and finished for social and press.
The Outcome
A series that holds together across four London homes and six guests, ready to launch with its own still library, and a combined Instagram audience of around 3.5 million.
