Rather than functioning as a catch-all montage, the reel compresses the year's strongest work into a concise edit that reveals range through rhythm, texture, and precision. It is designed to give a fast, credible read on how Etienne Morax directs, shoots, and shapes motion today.
The Brief
Create an annual portfolio film that distils the strongest work from 2024 into a short-form editorial piece. The objective is not to summarise every commission, but to select the material that best demonstrates direction, cinematography, editorial judgement, and the ability to move between branded, portrait-led, event, and narrative-driven footage with consistency.
The Challenge
The challenge was to reduce a year of varied material into a reel that feels singular rather than assembled. Different clients, locations, lighting conditions, and formats naturally pull in different visual directions. The edit had to preserve breadth while maintaining a disciplined tonal line, so the reel would read as authored work instead of a sequence of disconnected highlights.
The Approach
The selection process prioritised control over quantity. Shots were chosen for the way they speak to each other: movement against stillness, intimacy against scale, polish against immediacy. The cut was structured around escalation rather than chronology, allowing the reel to feel composed with intention. The aim was to reveal range through coherence, not through excess.
The Execution
Showreel 2024 was shaped as a portfolio film first and a retrospective second. The pacing stays taut, transitions remain almost invisible, and grade continuity helps different productions sit inside a shared visual language. The reel opens with authority, builds through contrast, and avoids over-explaining itself. Every inclusion earns its place by showing command of frame, atmosphere, subject presence, or editorial timing.
The Outcome
The result is a concise portfolio statement that presents Morax at full contemporary strength.
